Pop quiz: what immediately comes to mind when you read the word referee? For decades the only image that came to my mind was an old guy in a pinstriped shirt running up and down a field or basketball court overseeing a sporting event to assess who was keeping the rules and who was breaking them. If this is what came to your mind, then you are right.
But so are you who thought of someone who writes or gives a verbal reference. If you've given one recently that makes you a referee! Today I am going to play referee and give two references. The first is to my friend Mike's blog. Fidi Mgoy will bring you up-to-speed on all the latest World Cup action, especially as it concerns England. I am carefully following his posts so that I'll be prepared to join him for the big match this Saturday night. If you're a newcomer to World Cup soccer (like me), then this will be especially helpful.
And it's with great joy that I point you to Curtis' brand spanking new blog. It started yesterday, and while he claims it may not last long, if you all go check it out and write nice things, he may just keep it up and running. I hope you will, Curtis. The web needs you. I like to think of it as "the thinking man's blog." (Now I sound like my other friend Bob Jones!)
Like all quality referees, I have your very best in mind. So check out these blogs!
