This is Halloween. All over the U.S. children will climb stairs and knock on the neighbors door. They will scream "trick or treat" and hope their pillow cases and bags will be filled to the brim with candy. I miss those days, especially the weeks of eating yummy treats. But this reminded of the fun I had recently doing a little trick or treating of my own.
On my last day in the U.S. I drove over to a mammoth sized Borders bookstore (with good friends Chris and Curtis), walked through the front door, picked up a great big shopping bag (provided by the store) and waltzed through bookland like a kid in a candy store. I gleefully filled my bag with titles like The Time Traveler's Wife, Memory Keeper's Daughter, Blind Side, Team of Rivals, and God's Politics. What a thrill (having saved my money) going on this shopping spree. I even purchased a Borders bag for my flight home.
Trick or treat? It was all treats for me. Mind candy filled my bag. As for the real candy, being an adult now I can purchase that old stuff anytime I want. Happy Halloween, everyone!
