And the winner of the Swallow's Nest Summer Contest Series is...Brian Lo! Congratulations, Brian. It was a tough battle down the stretch between Brian and Jeff, but he did it. He'll be the recipient of a US$50 gift certificate to Amazon.com. He clinched it last week by identifying the film Rear Window, starring Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly, as my all-time favorite movie.
Rear Window the first in a long line of Alfred Hitchcock's films that I absolutely love. It features Stewart who is the best actor I've ever seen, and Kelly who is perhaps the most beautiful woman who ever lived. They combine in this classic reel about a wheelchair bound photographer (L.B. Jefferies) who spies on his neighbours from his apartment window. L.B. becomes convinced one of his neighbors has committed murder. It literally sends chills up and down my spine just thinking about the plot. Oh! You gotta go watch this film.
Alfred Hitchcock films and I go way back. When I was about ten my Dad and I started a tradition of watching old Hitchcock movies on Friday nights. One of the first ones we saw together was The Man Who Knew Too Much. After that I was hooked. (I'll save a series of posts for this topic later this fall.) There's always something special about a boy and his Dad establishing a tradition, and this was ours. There's nothing like a good Hitchock and when you get one that features Jimmy Stewart, as many of them do, you have a real gem.
