Today I want to share with you three profound resources on watching films with a theological perspective. Robert K. Johnston and Catherine M. Barsotti are a husband and wife team that teach at Fuller Seminary in California and they are the authors of the following three books which I consider to be the best out there in terms of our subject, theology and film. The first of the three is a primer on the topic, the second makes for a good case study on one specific book of the Bible and various films, and the third is a practical handbook that will help teachers, pastors, and friends discuss how a particular movie integrates with faith. I have used that book many times to prepare for my teaching.
You might be amazed at how many books and articles have been written about theology, faith, and the movies. If you doubt me, google the subjects or roll on over to Amazon and do a search. The number is actually growing. I have a few more on my shelf I need to get to, the most recently added is The Gospel According to Hollywood, but the three listed above by Johnston and Barsotti are the best I've read thus far.
