As is my practice I googled "used bookstores in Inverness" before we drove up from Edinburgh and this site directed me to Leakey's. Once inside we spent an hour and then decided to come back the next day. That's when I spent around three hours searching through thousands of books. They also have an outstanding and tasty cafe on the second floor (or the balcony where church goers once worshipped). I had a very good BLT.
I asked if I could take these photos and received a friendly "take as many as you want." Here's a view from the street corner outside the old church.
Look at this! What kind of bookstore has a fireplace as its centerpiece? And look at all that paper hanging out around the flames. Risky, if you ask me. But a delightful touch.
Here's that cafe I mentioned.
The view from the cafe of the old altar. Now this serves to worship a different god: books.
Just look at all those options!
I'd love to have this guy's job.
In case you're wondering, I did make a few purchases but I was largely just blown away by the size of the real estate and the volume of books! Someday, I need to get back here.
